Dodge plans to retire Challenger as parent company Stellantis eyes electrified future!

Los Angeles — For more than a dozen years, the Challenger has been the toughest modern Dodge, delivering old-fashioned horsepower and a retro-inspired look.

But Challenger is heading into retirement, as the brand embarks on an electrifying future.

They’re promising an electric muscle car to replace it as part of the company’s overall plan; Join other large auto companies in this promise.

Dodge is one of many legacy US brands from former Chrysler, and is now under the Stellantis umbrella, a global company looking to a greener future.

Dodge, Chrysler, Ram, Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo will all begin the electric transition in the coming years.

Chief Stellantis Worldwide hasn’t made any bones about it.

“The customer has always been at the heart of Stellantis, and our commitment to our €30 billion investment plan is to deliver distinctive vehicles with performance, capability, style, comfort and electric range that fit seamlessly into their daily lives,” said CEO Carlos Tavares.

We’ve already seen it in the popular Jeep brand, with two hybrid models in showrooms now, and an all-electric compact Jeep soon.

Alfa Romeo is the most recognizable car brand in North America, not counting Ferrari. This new small SUV called the Tonale is coming next year, and is offered as a plug-in hybrid.

Future models could be fully battery powered.

On the truck side, Ram announced that there will be an electric-only pickup in two years, following its Detroit rivals, Ford and GM.

Chrysler was in fact the first of the “legacy” brands to start using electric power, with the Pacifica Hybrid minivan.

It will not be the last.

Here’s a glimpse of what’s coming from the Chrysler brand in the electric future – it’s a concept car called Airflow. A modern electric car, borrowed from Chrysler’s past.

Some welcome these changes with open arms, but others aren’t so sure. If you’re in that last group and want your old school ride, as the saying goes, you better get one while you can!
